2018 Scholarship Winner
Caroline Hill Owen
Piano — Furman University / University of Georgia
A native of Atlanta, GA, Caroline Owen is a recent graduate of Furman University, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. She was a semifinalist at the 2016 International Keyboard Odyssiad competition, and a prizewinner in the 2017 Georgia MTNA Young Artist Competition and the 2016 South Carolina MTNA Young Artist Competition. Caroline performed Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2 as a winner of the 2015 Furman Symphony Orchestra concerto competition. She has also performed for Lucille Chung, Martin Katz, William Westney, Sandra Shen, and Jodi Chan in masterclass settings.
Ms. Owen was awarded a Furman Advantage Research grant to co-author (with Dr. Derek Parsons) a two-piano reduction of a piano concerto by Canadian composer Healey Willan. The reduction has been published through the Healey Willan Society in 2017, and performed by the co-authors at the 2017 SCMTA Conference. Additional performance experience has included a Mozart sonata on a 1791 Broadwood piano in Easley, SC, and a Mozart piano duet in a public performance in Arezzo, Italy. Caroline is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance under Dr. Liza Stepanova at the University of Georgia, where she holds a graduate teaching assistantship.
