Andrea Matthews , Coloratura soprano

Andrea is a native of Needham, MA, a graduate of Princeton University, and presently a member of the Voice Faculty of Wellesley College. She is a certified teacher of Alexander Technique as well as the editor of ExChange, the Journal of Alexander Technique International.

Andrea has won the enthusiastic praise of audiences as well as critics for her work in opera, concert, recital, and recording. During 1990-92, Andrea performed the following operatic roles with the Aachern Opera in Germany, Spain, Portugal, Paris, and France: Gilda in Rigoletto, Euridice in Gluck's Orfeo et Euridice, Susanna in Marriage of Figaro, Marie in The Bartered Bride, Gretel in Hansel & Gretel, Nannetta in Falstaff, Musetta in La Boheme and Violetta in La Traviata.

Recently, in the Boston area, she has appeared with the Boston Academy of Music in their productions of Arabella, Vanessa, and Il Trittico. Of her performance as Erika in Vanessa, Susan Larsen wrote in the Boston Globe "Matthews wrung agony from her soul ... she is a generous singer, honest down to her bones." Of her Melisande with Rivhard Conrad's The Bostonians in June 2006, Richard Dyer wrote "As the elusive Melisande, Andrea Matthews bound her expressive delivery of the words into exquisite colored musical phrases carried on a seamless legato."

Andrea has appeared with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Atlanta, Detroit, Cincinnati, Houston, Utah, New Jersey, and Baltimore Symphonies; also, with the Prague Autumn Music Festival in the Czech Republic, Stuttgart Philharmonic in Germany among numerous others.

This season's engagements are Beethoven's 9th Symphony at Jordan Hall in Boston; and the Missa Solemnis in Las Cruces, NM; Handel's Messiah with the Philharmonic Orchestra in New Jersey and the Buffalo Philharmonic; and Carmina Burana with the Jacksonville Symphony.

Ms. Matthews has had the pleasure of working with such renowned conductors as Sir Neville Marriner, Hugh Wolf, Charles Dutoit, Robert Shaw, Dennis Russell Davies, Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos, Neeme Jarvi, JoAnn Felletta, and Gerald Schwaz.

Gary Menzies, Pianist

An accomplished pianist, Gary has fulfilled both solo and accompanist roles for over 25 years. He has performed in a wide variety of capacities ranging from studio recordings to parades, from television appearances to sold-out concert halls. Musical tours have included the Caribbean, Alaska, New York, and London. Previous recordings include an album of Gershwin music as well as a full program of Chopin's works. For a few years, he served as Assistant Conductor of the Atlanta Repertory Opera Company and also was a prominently featured artist in five Pianorama Concerts at the renowned Fox Theatre in Atlanta.

Gary made his Spivey Hall debut with his much acclaimed Gershwin Concert. Recently, he performed as soloist in the Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto with the Walton Symphony Orchestra. One critic described him as "a native treasure." Gary has performed on three occasions with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and in April of 2000, he made his debut at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall playing Chopin and Liszt. His Carnegie Hall debut followed two years later, featuring other classical repertoire. In 2007, Gary again performed in Alice Tully Hall in New York. This is Gary's first engagement with Andrea Matthews.
